Mahlori

About Mahlori

We don't save communities.
We stand alongside them.

Founded in 2022, Mahlori operates across three South African provinces with locally-hired field teams and a model built on dignity, not dependence.

Mission

Equip children, families and neighbourhoods with the tools, voice and capital they need to build lasting change — on their own terms.

Vision

Africa's social safety net, designed and run by the people who live inside it.

Our story

Started on a stoep.
Scaled with intent.

In 2016, three friends began an after-school programme in Soweto with seven kids, two donated laptops and an unreasonable belief that local knowledge — not parachuted expertise — would change outcomes.

A decade later, that conviction still anchors every decision. Mahlori works in 14 neighbourhoods, employs 84 people, and partners with 62 grassroots organisations to design programs that respect the agency of the communities we serve.

We measure success in three ways: lives changed, local leaders developed, and the day we're no longer needed.

What we stand on

Four values.
Non-negotiable.

01 / 04

Dignity first

Every interaction respects the agency and voice of the people we serve. No charity theatre.

02 / 04

Hyper-local

We design programs with neighbourhoods, not for them. Solutions live where the problems live.

03 / 04

Outcomes over optics

We publish what works, what didn't, and what we learned. Transparency is a value, not a campaign.

04 / 04

Patient capital

Lasting change is generational. We commit for the long arc — not the photo op.
